Exhibition

I’ll be exhibiting a selection of my colour photographs at The Eigth Day in Manchester from February. Dates TBC.

Further more, I’m trying to update this blog on a daily basis. Subscribe for regular updates!

Big thanks to Article Magazine for the following text:

“Quite often, street photography pays attention to extraordinary occurrences within a city. In contrast to the unusual and sometimes fantastical, Claire Atkinson manages to capture the more realistic, everyday perspective of the daily life of Manchester.

Atkinson’s ever-changing ‘Manc’ characters and backdrops show Manchester for its true self. The delightful personalities to be found on public transport, the caffeine-addicts through steamy café windows and the rushing feet of business along rainy pavements. We are not only given a taste of Manchester, but a rushing, blurry, reflection of Britain as a grumpy, ageing, multicultural nation.”

  1. Claire – thanks for stopping by Enthusiast Photographer! I really like your work, especially the misty window shots. They are have really evocative colors and texture. You’ve definitely got an eye! I’ll check back often!

    Lee…

  2. Never been to Manchester, but I’ve been lots of other places in England. Indeed, I used to live in East Anglia back in the ’70s.

Love your street photography. You have a good eye on what to capture.

  4. Claire, I like all of these shots >>> but the top and bottom ones really get to me – excellent stuff!!!Focusing on that red beaker in the bottom picture was, quite simply, a master stroke! FATman

  5. Thank you for stopping by to visit my blog. I just saw your photos above and they are amazing. Hope we can share more with each other in the future.

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  6. I’m glad you alerted me to your blog. That eye for the unusual yet familiar, and quick decision making are important attributes for anyone shooting in the streets. Even though I have not visited Manchester for ten years It is one of my favorite cities definitely with its own character. As a city, though, it is transforming itself from historic to modern much too fast. Your Dale Street photo, for example, shows a brick building on the right. I bet you that is a building slated for removal. When I return to M/c in the next few years to visit family and friends it may well be gone. Stop my ramble, I love your photography always with something surprising and interesting.

  7. Great photos! I love your attention to small details.
Article Magazine definitely said it right that you show more of the daily life type of stuff there.

    Thanks for posting these!

  9. The street-scape shots are really great. I’m always inspired by other photographers’ unique views. I’m sure you’ve said it before, but what camera and lens are you using?

  10. “Yes, yes, yes”, to quote Henri Cartier-Bresson. I am showing your work to my students as a “how-to” make fresh street pictures in our 21st century urban landscape. Wonderful, and thanks for taking a look at my recent posts.

  11. Hi Claire, I’m very happy and honoured that you have linked to my photo blog. I like your photos very much ….. you have a great eye for a good image ….. you will no doubt be familiar with the photographer Saul Leiter, as your work reminds me of his city studies….. keep up the good work

  13. Excellent series Claire, glad we found each other via WP. I just love the reflections, as a matter of fact I have one myself, an on going project that I hope to publish sometime this year. As soon as I saw yours it caught my attention. Great eye !!

  14. Lovely photos and well deserved review! I’m a bit shy about taking photos of people but you have inspired me to give it a try! I usually just stick to pictures of trees and smaller creatures :)

  15. Love your depth of field in a lot of your photos, as well as the brilliant saturated colors. What are you shooting with. I’m thinking a Nikon D3x series? Doesn’t really because you doing great regardless of what camera you’re using. Keep it up. By the by, thanks for the follow. I also followed you on Facebook as well.

  16. Great work, Claire! Seriously, you’re very skilled. It takes a gifted photog to capture moments in time and present them for what they truly are: a treasure from Above.
